If you are like me and run a stock standard Apple iPhone 3G and by that I mean an Apple iPhone that is not Jailbroken, then you may have noticed sometimes the phone can be slow.
Usually after a reboot the phone will be pretty snappy, but we all know how long it takes any kind of smart phone to reboot, although the I find the Apple iPhone relatively quick when compared, but overall a bit slow.
Here are some useful things to know about the Apple iPhone OS.
In general when you run an app and then close it it has been removed from memory, however I learnt this great trick.
If you are in any app and you hold the power button down until the screen darkens on your Apple iPhone and you are prompted to either shut down or cancel. At this point the only button you need to push and keep pushed is your “home’ button. You will notice after about 3 seconds the iPhone freezes and then the app that was running is ejected from memory.
When next you are finding your Apple iPhone 3G is not performing as you know it should open Safari and perform this trick. (It is always a good idea to clear web pages you are no longer using in Safari)
As far as I know these are the only memory resident programs that run simultaneously with the OS. Along with the “phone’ app.
You can do this with your mail application and with iPod app. After this you will find your iPhone should perform much quicker.
Hope this helps

Facebook for the Apple iPhone is one of those apps that you can’t really do without if you are a Facebook slut and own an Apple iPhone. Fortunately for you I have the phone and I am that slut and the first time I downloaded the new face-lifted Facebook app for my iPhone I was impressed.

The icon itself is pretty recognisable and well designed. When you launch the application you are prompted for your username and password.

Once you have logged into Facebook you are presented with a neat screen of options to choose from.

If you have any notifications you will be alerted at the bottom of the screen, however from here you can pretty much access anything that you would need from Facebook on the go.

Touching the news feeds icons takes you to this easy to scroll list of updates based on what you select. In this case status updates.
The various screens of the Facebook for Apple iPhone app are incredibly well designed with an ease of use that sometimes makes this application better to use than the full browser version.

Next up is the profile page. From this page you can easily view and change any information you might see. You can even change or add profile images using images from the image gallery on your iPhone or images you may already have stored on Facebook.

To view a list of your friends is a breeze with a screen that is easy to navigate and use.

Overall the Facebook app for the Apple iPhone is slick. It certainly is more than one would need on the go and to stay in contact with friends. I believe Facebook have set a great benchmark with this application which is both useful and easy to use.
If you use Facebook and you own an Apple iPhone or plan to get one then this is a must have app for you and best of all it is free.

The Apple iPhone App Store offers a wide range of 3rd party apps either for free or usually for a $1. Often I have found myself tinkering with a few apps I have downloaded either out of sheer curiosity, or word of mouth. Considering I have been adding all things iPhone of late to neuromance.co.za I have decided to add this new category to neuromance.
Hope you enjoy!
