Apple Magic Mouse and Bluetooth Connectivity Issues

July 19th, 2011

I bought my Apple Magic Mouse more than a year ago and it is still going strong, but not without several Bluetooth disconnection issues. Anyone who has used the Apple Magic Mouse will know what I am talking about. When using the mouse it sometimes disconnects followed by a reconnect. It seems completely random, as if it is aware of the frustration it causes. This disconnect usually comes right if you simply tap the mouse to reactivate it.

During one of my active moments of self-enlightenment I thought I would investigate this issue, which had also cropped up late more frequently. After several hours of research I discovered the following:

- A lot of people had this problem

- If you hold a Magic Mouse vertically and tap it near the bottom edge it recreates the disconnection issue.

- Seems independent of software issues

Upon further research it has been discovered that by simply securing the batteries inside the Apple Magic Mouse with cardboard resolves this problem. I have been utilising this solution for the past month and a bit and I can confirm it has put the magic back into my Apple Magic Mouse experience.
