Facebook for the Apple iPhone

November 30th, 2009

Facebook for the Apple iPhone is one of those apps that you can’t really do without if you are a Facebook slut and own an Apple iPhone. Fortunately for you I have the phone and I am that slut and the first time I downloaded the new face-lifted Facebook app for my iPhone I was impressed.

The icon itself is pretty recognisable and well designed. When you launch the application you are prompted for your username and password.

facebook2

Once you have logged into Facebook you are presented with a neat screen of options to choose from.

If you have any notifications you will be alerted at the bottom of the screen, however from here you can pretty much access anything that you would need from Facebook on the go.

Touching the news feeds icons takes you to this easy to scroll list of updates based on what you select. In this case status updates.

The various screens of the Facebook for Apple iPhone app are incredibly well designed with an ease of use that sometimes makes this application better to use than the full browser version. :)

Next up is the profile page. From this page you can easily view and change any information you might see. You can even change or add profile images using images from the image gallery on your iPhone or images you may already have stored on Facebook.

To view a list of your friends is a breeze with a screen that is easy to navigate and use.

Overall the Facebook app for the Apple iPhone is slick. It certainly is more than one would need on the go and to stay in contact with friends. I believe Facebook have set a great benchmark with this application which is both useful and easy to use.

If you use Facebook and you own an Apple iPhone or plan to get one then this is a must have app for you and best of all it is free.

Seacom Broadband Competition – Please vote for me!

November 29th, 2009

Seacomblog.com are running a competition, which I came across one evening. The competition seems very lose in constraints and simply asks for ideas in written word with supporting pictures or a video of what you think Africa could do with more broadband. I decided to submit Shades of Sky which has been accepted as an entry and is almost in the lead with votes.

So please vote for me! :)

Are cellphones dangerous?

Cellular Telephone, Russian Roulette – A historical and scientific perspective – a book by Robert C.Kane

The earth and all living creatures on the land have evolved in
an environment that has a low background level of
radiofrequency radiation that occurs naturally.
The power density that radiates, close to the head of a user,
from a portable ‘cellular telephone is 2 billion times higher than
that background level. More explicitly, a portable cellular
telephone, held in the operating position, will provide a power
density of radiofrequency radiation about 2 billion times
greater than occurs naturally in the environment.

I still need to make my mind up but this book is a daunting read and a solid wall of facts about my very article title.

You decide.

An evening at Movida, Sunninghill

November 29th, 2009

Last night I was invited to a birthday bash at Movida in Sunninghill, Johannesburg.

Movida is a relatively new night club which is considered more ‘upper class’ then your average night club and last night I had first-hand experience and VIP treatment at this exquisite club.

I arrived at about 10pm and upon entering I was severely impressed. The club’s interior is generous in space. Dark reds, oranges and blacks are the prevalent colour of the entire club which boasts a large dance floor which can double up as a seating space when required. The interior of the club is beautifully decorated with classy comfortable furniture, orange and red sensual lighting on the outskirts, with a bright and buzzing light show in the centre for those dancing.

Fortunately I was on the VIP list which afforded me access to the VIP lounge which is perfectly situated to give you a view of the entire club which came into effect at 11ish when all of a sudden the music stopped, the lights darkened and we were presented with a Movida Cabaret show. The stage in which the cabaret show took place was well made, and once again great lighting effects. The show itself was vastly entertaining with some incredible dancers :)

The Cabaret show lasted about 10 minutes however it seemed to set the tone for the rest of the evening of jam-packed fun and entertainment.

A few impressions I am left with after visiting Movida.

  • No expense was spared when it came to the interior of the club. From the actual decoration, furniture and amazing sound and lighting. The club is first rate and first class in all these categories.
  • The space -  the club has a great setup in terms of general space.
  • The VIP area felt like a VIP area which provides full view of the entire club and you have your own private bar.

Great overall. Enjoy the photos below although I apologise for the quality, I was using my mobile to take pictures.

Magnificent sunset photograph. Camps Bay, South Africa.

The photograph below,  is made up of +/-15 separate photos that were stitched together in Adobe Photoshop. I still don’t think this photograph captures what the light was really like that sunset.

Enjoy. :)
